The lab. micrometer can read to an accuracy of 0.01 mm.

HOW TO READ THE MICROMETER.

The thimble is just past the 5.5 mm mark on the barrel.

The horizontal line is at the 28 mark on the thimble.

So, the reading is 5.5+0.28 = 5.78 mm.
